It is often said that "it is who you know" that counts. The importance of networking cannot be undermined. Men often get promoted based on their qualifications, while women need to have the right connections, which are easier to come by when they network with other women. Networking can lead to career opportunities, mentorship, and connections that could eventually turn into long-term business relationships and successful entrepreneurial ventures.
And some female-only networking groups even go the extra mile in providing a platform to discuss gender issues and equality without prejudice - GWBC is one of them! Through these platforms, women were able to share their personal experiences such as how they deal with gender biases and discrimination in general. This is also helpful to other participants as they learn insights from other women’s experiences and build strategies to overcoming barriers to their growth and success.
As a female entrepreneur, I see that there are still a handful of opportunities to connect and collaborate with other women in business. Nowadays, women are leaving their corporate jobs to go to establish their own business and build a family. Many stay-at-home mums still generate income to provide for their families - thanks to their entrepreneurial spirit!
Women are not "naturals" when it comes to networking like men are. Women tend to think of socializing as a waste of time or as something they should only do if necessary. It's not uncommon for women to shy away from networking events or even makes excuses for why they couldn't attend an event. So it’s really important to instill in them the benefits of networking and why they should join one.
This is not just about how to start a business, it is also about improving their personal lives as well by cultivating the right mindset so that they can be the best version of themselves.
I’m very privileged to be able to establish the GWBC group which is now making waves throughout Australia. Through our wonderful events hosted by influential speakers, our participants became more confident about themselves and unleashed their fullest potential. They were able to connect and collaborate with other women and started their business ventures.
Networking is important for everyone. It is especially important for women because they are often judged more than their male counterparts and it can be hard to get ahead in their careers or business.
