How to Achieve Work-Life Balance

Updated: Feb 19, 2022

Understanding the Challenges of Achieving Work-Life Balance

In a rapidly changing world, work-life balance is a complex and challenging subject for many people. There are many factors that can make it difficult, like one’s work environment, the type of work, the location of the job, and so on. The Covid-19 surge made it more challenging, forcing some businesses to shift online, cut down manpower and operational cost, and do rebranding to adapt to the new environment. Unfortunately, those businesses that couldn’t keep up just close down.

How to Maintain Work-Life Balance

We will explore how women can adapt to working in hybrid environments and find ways to conquer challenges in achieving work-life balance. It takes a lot of courage and resilience to balance work and life, but it is possible.

SET BOUNDARIES — Working from home does not imply that you are available at all times. Keep your workplace hours the same as you did before the lockdown. Some employees find it useful to stick to their habit of wearing work attire, doing make-up, and adhering to workplace rituals. This switches them to work mode. Setting boundaries will save you from burnout and it will give you time to your other life priorities.

ALLOCATE TIME FOR YOURSELF — Make time for something you enjoy, such as exercising, baking cookies, listening to feel-good music, working on an art project, doing a puzzle, or trying some new activities that you haven’t tried before.

CONCENTRATE ON THE TASKS — When working especially at home, try to find a quiet space where you can work with minimal distractions. You can also try to turn off all other devices so you're not distracted by notifications. Set a time limit for how long you want to spend on each task before moving on to the next. This will allow you to have a better sense of time so you can allocate them wisely.

PLAN AHEAD — Juggling with different things can be overwhelming more so if you’re a parent. There’s work, household chores, meal preparation, taking take of children and the list goes on. Planning ahead will save you time and stress. Not only it will enable you to be organized but also be able to set your priorities accordingly.

Women have more opportunities than ever before but they are often seen as the nurturer, emotional caretakers and take on more responsibility of balancing work and life. This can be detrimental to their professional growth. If handled wisely, they can conquer any challenges and be successful in both professional and personal life.
